![]() Ludwig’s addition to YouTube Gaming should definitely be a wake-up call for Twitch considering there are a lot of fires the platform needs to put out - like dealing with frequent hate raids and doxxing - if it wants to retain its stars. Clearly, Twitch is unfazed by the recent moves made by streamers, but it needs to be careful if others follow suit. According to a Stream Hatchet Q3 2021 report, Twitch had a 41% increase in year-on-year viewership growth while YouTube Gaming saw a 12% decline. One of the reasons he believed streamers were switching is because Twitch wasn’t offering lucrative exclusive contracts.ĭespite the possible mass exodus of streamers, Twitch seems to be holding its own against YouTube Gaming. He also mentioned that he had some ‘secret info’ on other streamers leaving Twitch for the site, but did not mention that he was one of them. Ludwig had already hinted towards his move to YouTube right after DrLupo’s announcement surfaced. Twitch losing Ludwig Aghren, the content creator that currently holds the 'most-subbed streamer in the history of the platform' record, is a huge blow for the site, with the 26-year-old explaining why he left, signing an exclusivity deal with YouTube Gaming. In addition to this, YouTube also has Dr Disrespect, who is currently looking to sue Twitch owing to his permanent ban in 2020. ![]() Because of this, and the fact that Twitch actually gained market share during Mixer’s rise, Twitch seemingly believes that its brand stands on its own and that it doesn’t need to lock up popular streamers in order to stay on top. This move follows a trend as YouTube recently signed two of the biggest Twitch personalities, TimTheTatman and DrLupo, to stream exclusively on its platform. In 2019, Twitch went on a spending spree to lock up popular streamers long-term after Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and Michael “shroud” Grzesiek signed exclusive contracts with Mixer.ĭespite partnering with two of the biggest names in the industry, Mixer failed to gain sufficient audience share and shut down in 2020. The rationale behind no longer tendering large offers to streamers comes largely due to former competitor Mixer’s inability to gain traction. This comes as Twitch is allowing some popular personalities to leave for other streaming platforms due to Twitch’s decision to cut back on offering exclusive streaming deals. He was the sixth-highest-earning streamer during this stretch, not including possible exclusivity contracts with Twitch.ĭespite those eye-popping numbers, Ludwig is set to leave Twitch in favor of YouTube Gaming. Ludwig is one of the highest-earning streamers on Twitch, with the recent leak of streamer payouts revealing that he had made over $3.2 million over a two-year span through subscriptions, ad revenue, and donations. ![]()
